Wildwood Gallery will host "Unreal Realism," a special exhibit by photographer Paulo R. De Andrea.
The opening reception will be held 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, and the work will be on display through Sept. 14.
"With this collection, I hope to suggest new paths to imagination and discovery, as well as a sense of fantasy that reality can induce – if we let it," De Andrea said.
De Andrea uses finishing techniques to create the vibrancy and energy that experience generates and to create moods that documentary-style photography cannot recreate.
"Almost everything grows more exquisite upon closer examination," De Andrea added.
Selected to participate in the Illinois Artisan Program, a wide range of De Andrea's work is regularly featured at events held at the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago.
Previous gallery exhibits, including those at the Beverly Art Center in Chicago and the Osterle Library Center in Naperville, showcased "Tango," a collection photographed in the tango clubs of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where De Andrea was born.
De Andrea has received awards from the Chicago Flower and Garden Show, International Jurong Bird Competition and International Festival of Tango. His work is published in art and travel publications in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Argentina.
A past educator at the Joseph Regenstein Jr. School of the Chicago Botanic Garden and presenter at the Barber & Oberwortmann Horticultural Center in Joliet, De Andrea hopes to share his passion for the artistry photography can create.
Wildwood Gallery is located at 1010 S. State St. in Lockport. For more information, call (815) 838-9852.
