Lockport Mayor Steve Streit has a plan for the 13 City-owned acres of land on the site of the former Chevron refinery, which he unveiled in detail June 5 during the Committee of the Whole meeting. Streit’s proposal is to use the site to construct a “Maker’s Park,” a co-op facility including indoor and outdoor spaces which could be utilized by a variety of students and craftsmen (or “makers”) to hone their skills and create unique products. Streit says he believes the project could “foster a sense of community and collaboration” as well as “encourage quality products and meaningful work” while helping small businesses grow in the south suburbs.
