A man is dead as a result of a car crash that took place in the early evening Monday, Jan. 16, on the 500 block of N. State Street in Lockport, according to a Tuesday, Jan. 17, press release from the Lockport Police Department.

Armando Piemonte, 45, of Chicago, was pronounced dead at Silver Cross Hospital after his gray Chrysler Town and Country van collided with a tow truck, according to the press release.

A young Lockport resident’s accident on June 7 had left the entire community devastated.

Four-year-old Gabby Matlak had fallen into the pool at a friend’s house, sustaining life-threatening injuries, and was subsequently taken to the Lurie Children’s Hospital. After days of excruciating agony, Gabby’s condition has taken a turn for the better.

According to BeccaMatlack-Hodges, Gabby’s aunt,her breathing tube has been removed and that was “a very big step for her”.

A body found in the Des Plaines River Friday, April 13, is that of a Lockport man missing since March 21, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

Sean Joy, 20, was reported missing by his family from Lockport. On Wednesday, April 11, an unidentified leg was found in the Lockport Locks portion of the Des Plaines River. Two days later, Joliet first-responders found the rest of the body in the river.

According to the coroner's office, dental comparisons confirmed the body belonged to Joy.
