No injuries were reported in a residential structure fire Tuesday, May 3, in Lockport Township, according to the Lockport Township Fire Protection District.

The fire reportedly occurred in the 21000 block of Renwick Road, near its intersection with Grand Haven Boulevard.

Firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 1:20 p.m., LTFPD Chief Dave Skoryi said in an email. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a fire in the attic of the house.

A young Lockport resident’s accident on June 7 had left the entire community devastated.

Four-year-old Gabby Matlak had fallen into the pool at a friend’s house, sustaining life-threatening injuries, and was subsequently taken to the Lurie Children’s Hospital. After days of excruciating agony, Gabby’s condition has taken a turn for the better.

According to BeccaMatlack-Hodges, Gabby’s aunt,her breathing tube has been removed and that was “a very big step for her”.

A man is dead as a result of a car crash that took place in the early evening Monday, Jan. 16, on the 500 block of N. State Street in Lockport, according to a Tuesday, Jan. 17, press release from the Lockport Police Department.

Armando Piemonte, 45, of Chicago, was pronounced dead at Silver Cross Hospital after his gray Chrysler Town and Country van collided with a tow truck, according to the press release.
