A 20-year-old man was hit and killed by a train Tuesday evening at the C-N railroad tracks at W. 2nd Street and State Street in Lockport.

Jacob A. Hegeduis, of Lockport, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, according to a press release issued by the Will County Coroner at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Nick Strahanoski walked out on stage to nothing but silence. The four judges on the “The Voice” were turned away from him during the blind auditions, and the audience was told to hold their applause. Strahanoski’s tenor was the first sound.

“All the sudden, you’re standing out there, doing what you watch on TV,” he said. “It’s surreal, it’s crazy.”

He was nervous — the most he had been in years — enough to pace backstage even with cameras pointed on him, enough that much of the experience is blacked out in his memory.
